Updated Hardiness Zone to Zipcode Search
Plantmaps has updated its unique USDA hardiness zone to zipcode search to include expanded climate and zone data to assist in your gardening and planting decisions. by entering your zipcode in the Gardening Zone to Zipcode search tool you can now get not only your official USDA hardiness zone, you also can find out the average maximum and minimum temperature for each month as well as average monthly precipitation for your zipcode.
Plantmaps has also created an updated version of the hardiness zone map containing climate data through 2009. The current USDA hardiness zone map was released in 1990 and contains climate data from 1974 to 1986. The Plantmaps Hardiness zone map contains climate data from longer periods of time (30+ years for some locations). The hardiness zone to zipcode search will now give you the USDA hardiness zone as well as the Plantmaps hardiness zone.
One of the limitations of the hardiness zone map is that it doesn’t give the reader information on how warm an area can get during the growing season. To solve this issue, Plantmaps has created a Heat Zones map that will tell you on average how many days exceed 86 degrees (F) in a year. When entering your zipcode you will get your plantmaps Heat Zone as well as your hardiness zone.
Other new features include current Palmer Drought index values for your zipcode as well as your locale EPA ecoregion designation.
